In 2007 I was thrilled to be awarded Best Young Dentist. So, ten years on, it is a privilege to be part of this year’s judging panel. Also on the panel is Amit Patel principal specialist and director at Birmingham Dental Specialists. And the third judge is Julian English, Editorial Director of FMC.
The Best Young Dentist Category is awarded across 8 Regions. These are North East & North West; South East & South West. Also Wales, Scotland, London and the Midlands.
The basic criteria is that you are a dentist aged 35 or under, when applying. The judges look for evidence of hard work and drive, as well as achievement in their career to date. Things like overcoming hurdles and going beyond the regular duty of care are also important. Finally we look for ongoing development and involvement with the local community or a charity.
Across the regions, we shortlisted 47 entrants, demonstrating the high quality of the entries. And it was a hard task to whittle the list down to the 8 eventual winners.
